Model history and generations

Model history and generations

The Q4 e-tron launched globally in 2021 and reached US showrooms as a 2022 model in two shapes: the regular SUV and the more coupe-like Q4 Sportback e-tron. It shares its MEB bones with the Volkswagen ID.4, Skoda Enyaq and Cupra Born.

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines and drivetrain

US cars came mainly as the Q4 40 e-tron (single rear motor, rear-wheel drive) and the Q4 50 e-tron quattro (dual motor, all-wheel drive). Early 40 models used a rear permanent-magnet motor of roughly 201 hp; the 50 quattro added a front motor for about 295 hp combined.

Which trim makes sense

In the US the line was sold as Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige, in both SUV and Sportback bodies. Popular options include the panoramic glass roof, the larger MMI touch display, the Bang & Olufsen sound system, matrix-style LED lighting and the S line exterior.

Who benefits from importing

The Q4 e-tron suits a buyer who wants a premium compact electric SUV with a specific spec — a loaded Prestige Sportback quattro, say — that may be scarcer or configured differently in Europe.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Known weak points and maintenance

Early MEB cars, including the Q4 e-tron, had well-documented software teething issues: infotainment freezes, occasional 12-volt battery drains and public-charging handshake hiccups that Audi addressed through updates. Confirm the car has the latest software and any thermal-management campaign applied. The high-voltage battery is durable, but you should still request a state-of-health readout.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

US and EU spec compared

US cars use the CCS1 charging inlet, while European charging uses CCS2 (Combo 2).

TÜV, modifications and registration

Typical work is fitting or activating a rear fog lamp, adapting the headlights to European aiming, switching the display to km/h, and arranging CCS2 charging compatibility.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

The import process in detail

The assessment depends on the specific vehicle and the circumstances of the transaction. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review any possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are considered separately.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Can a US Audi Q4 e-tron charge in Europe?

Yes, with a CCS1-to-CCS2 adapter or an inlet conversion. We flag charging compatibility as part of the import so the car works on German networks.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

How is the battery health checked?

We request a state-of-health readout and confirm the car received the relevant software and thermal campaigns before you buy.

What range does it offer?

Real-world range depends on the battery version; updated 2024-on cars charge faster and go further than early 2022-2023 examples.

SUV or Sportback — which should I import?

Both import identically. The Sportback is slightly more efficient and sleeker; the SUV offers more rear headroom and cargo height.

How is import VAT treated when importing a Audi Q4 e-tron?

Import VAT and other taxes or costs are assessed separately under the applicable rules and the circumstances of the individual case. A blanket answer for every vehicle would not be reliable.

Is registering a US EV in Germany complicated?

No. It needs a rear fog lamp, European headlight aiming, a km/h display and CCS2 charging, then TÜV and registration.

How can a specific Audi Q4 e-tron be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
